Plaintiffs aligned with the Republican Party of Minnesota have filed suit in Wright County district court challenging the constitutionality of the state's current legislative and congressional districts. The challenge is based on 1999 population estimates published by the State Demographer and the state total published by the Census Bureau on December 28, 2000. The complaint alleges that the legislature has failed and will fail to redraw the districts to meet equal-population requirements, demands an injunction against the use of the current plans for the 2002 election, and asks the court to draw new plans if the Legislature fails to do so. The case is: Zachman v.Kiffmeyer, (10th Dist. Wright County, complaint served Jan. 4, 2001).
